Knees to Elbows on the Kaehler Core

Kaehler Core
Dec 14, 2023

If you are a runner or rower and find your IT-bands are always tight you likely have weakness in your primary leg flexor muscles. This underlying weakness develops as the athlete overuses the IT-Band and lower spine to help flex the hips, knees, and ankles to drive the leg forward to the next heel strike or on the recovery of a rowing stroke.

It is common to see this weakness in runners and rowers where they need to constantly roll out their chronic IT-band tightness before or after training. These symptoms often limit running or rowing volume due to lateral knee pain and/or back tightness or discomfort.

The knees to elbow exercise on the Kaehler Core as shown in the video starts to shift the leg flexor muscle work back into the hip, knee, and ankle flexors by stabilizing the spine when moving the legs.

As the athlete improves strength and shifts more work into the primary leg flexors the over use of the IT-band and spine calms down and symptoms go away.

So if you are tired of IT-band tightness or low back stiffness or discomfort you will want to give this exercise movement a try.
